Whisper Organics mattress in a quiet bedroom

Caring for Your Whisper Mattress

A quiet guide to your first 60 nights, and every night after.

Thank you for choosing a mattress made the slow way.

Your Whisper Mattress was built from certified organic cotton, wool, and Dunlop latex, layered over a 7-zone pocketed coil system. Every part of it was chosen to do one thing well: help you sleep better, for a long time, without anything synthetic between you and rest.

This page is here to walk you through what to expect, how to care for your mattress, and what to do if anything feels off along the way. It's the same guidance we'd give you in person, written down so you can return to it whenever you'd like.

There's no rush to read it all today. Bookmark it, come back to it, and let it meet you where you are.

Getting Started

Setting Up Your Mattress

1

Unbox within two weeks

Your mattress was rolled and packaged with care, and it prefers to be opened sooner rather than later. Please plan to unbox it within two weeks of delivery so the natural materials can breathe and settle into shape.

2

What to expect when you unroll it

Expansion begins the moment your mattress is freed from its packaging. Within about 30 minutes, it will reach close to its full size. Within 4 hours, it will be ready to sleep on.

For the most accurate sense of its comfort, we recommend giving it a full 24 hours before forming a final impression.

You may notice a gentle scent in the first few days. This is the natural smell of organic wool and Dunlop latex. It is not chemical, and it is not off-gassing. It will fade on its own within a few days as the mattress airs out. Opening a window helps.

3

If the corners look uneven

Because we don't use polyurethane foams, the corners may take slightly longer to fill out than the rest of the mattress. If they look soft or under-filled, simply lift each corner and give it a gentle shake. The materials will settle into place.

Foundation

Choosing the Right Foundation

The foundation under your mattress matters more than most people realize. The right base helps your mattress breathe, supports the coils evenly, and keeps everything performing the way it's meant to.

What works well
  • Platform beds with a solid but ventilated surface
  • Slatted frames with slats at least 2 inches wide and no more than 3 inches apart
  • Adjustable bases
  • Standard foundations designed for hybrid or latex mattresses
What we recommend avoiding
  • Traditional box springs. These are designed to flex with innerspring mattresses and can interfere with the support of a hybrid build.
  • Solid, non-ventilated platforms. Without airflow underneath, the mattress can trap heat and moisture.
A note for Queen and King sizes

Queen and King mattresses require a center support leg. Without one, the base may flex over time and create a dip in the middle of the bed. Most modern bed frames include this. If yours doesn't, it's worth adding before your mattress arrives.

First Weeks

Your First 30 Nights

The first month with a new mattress is an adjustment, both for the mattress and for your body. Here's what's normal, and what to do if something feels unexpected.

"It feels too firm."

Natural materials settle. The wool and cotton layers in your mattress will soften over the first 30 to 60 days as they respond to your body and the rhythm of regular use. The bed you sleep on tonight will feel meaningfully different in six weeks.

If it feels firmer than you hoped in the first week or two, this is part of the process. We'd encourage you to give it the full break-in window before drawing conclusions. Most customers find that the mattress they fall in love with is not the mattress they unbox, but the one they wake up on a month later.

"It feels too soft, or too bouncy."

This is almost always a foundation issue rather than a mattress one. A few questions worth asking:

Are you using a traditional box spring? Box springs are built to flex, which can introduce more bounce than a hybrid mattress is designed for. The mattress itself is engineered from the bottom up to provide its own support, and works best on a firm, ventilated base.

For Queen and King sizes, is there a center support leg? Without one, even a solid frame can sag slightly under the weight of the mattress, creating a softer feel in the middle.

If you adjust the foundation and the feel still seems off after a week or two, please reach out. We'd rather hear from you than have you wonder.

"I'm sleeping warmer than I expected."

Your mattress is built to breathe, but it can only do that if everything around it lets it.

Air needs to move underneath. A solid, non-ventilated platform traps heat beneath the mattress, which radiates back up. A slatted foundation or ventilated platform allows air to circulate freely and keeps the surface cooler.

Your bedding matters more than you'd think. Synthetic sheets, polyester duvet inserts, and non-breathable mattress covers create a layer of insulation between you and your mattress. Even the most breathable bed cannot overcome a synthetic barrier on top of it. For the most temperature-regulated sleep, we recommend pairing your mattress with bedding made from natural fibers like organic cotton, wool, or linen.

If you're using a slatted base and natural fiber bedding and still find yourself running warm, please reach out. There may be other adjustments we can suggest.

"Something else feels off."

If something doesn't feel right and you're not sure why, please don't sit with it alone. Many concerns have simple answers once we understand what you're experiencing. You can reply to any of our emails, or write to us at care@whisper-organics.com. We'll be there.

Maintenance

Caring for Your Mattress

A few small habits will keep your Whisper Mattress feeling its best for years.

Routine care
1

Do not flip the mattress

Your Whisper Mattress is a single-sided design, with the support coils on the bottom and the comfort layers on top. Flipping it would put the firm support layer where the soft comfort should be.

2

Rotate head-to-toe regularly

For the first six months, rotate your mattress 180 degrees once a month. After that, every other month is enough. This helps the coils and comfort layers wear evenly.

3

Spot clean only

Use a damp cloth and a mild detergent for any small marks. Avoid soaking the cover, as excess water can affect the natural wool and latex layers underneath.

4

If you ever store the mattress, keep it flat

Standing a hybrid mattress upright for long periods can cause the internal layers to shift. Always lay it flat when stored.

Helping your mattress last

Use a breathable organic mattress protector

A protector adds a quiet layer of defense against moisture, skin oils, and everyday wear, without compromising the airflow your mattress depends on. We recommend an organic cotton protector rather than a synthetic or vinyl one, which can trap heat.

Pair it with natural fiber bedding

Cotton, wool, and linen sheets work with your mattress, not against it. They allow air to move and heat to escape, which is the entire point of building a mattress this way.

Keep it out of direct sunlight

UV exposure can break down natural latex over time. If your bed sits near a window, drawn curtains during the brightest part of the day will help preserve the mattress's structure.

Your Coverage

Your Sleep Trial and Warranty

365-Night Sleep Trial

You have a full year to decide whether your Whisper Mattress is right for you. We don't believe a single night, or even a single week, is enough to know.

If you choose to return it, we don't require you to ship the mattress back. Instead, we ask that you donate it to a local charity or nonprofit, or arrange responsible disposal. Once we receive your documentation, your refund is processed in full.

You can read the complete trial details on our Sleep Trial Warranty.

20-Year Limited Warranty

After your trial ends, your mattress is covered for 20 years against manufacturing defects under normal use. This includes visible sagging of 1.5 inches or more, coil defects, fabric or stitching failures, and size discrepancies reported within 30 days of delivery.

To file a claim, email care@whisper-organics.com with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photos or video. Full warranty terms are available here.

Still Have Questions?

We'd genuinely rather hear from you than have you wonder.

If something feels unexpected, if you're unsure about your foundation, or if you just want to talk through how the first few weeks have been, you can reply to any email from us, or write to care@whisper-organics.com directly.
